Saving the world by Saving ourselves: Less Meat equals more Water

Some people are overtly aware of the dangerous environmental impact that heard farming of cattle has caused in this country. There aren't really any good statistics that I have found questioning the average knowledge about water scarcity and its misappropriation towards cattle feed production.

Did you know that in California there is more water going into the production of Alfalfa and Grain than towards human consumed produce? Its true. That means that water shortages could be eliminated in California all together if just 1/3 of meat production was halted, you should also stop watering your sidewalks, and lawns are unnatural during a drought, didn't you know? There would(and should) be less subsidies for these farmers and this would cause meat prices to go up. But the whole of society does not appreciate just how damaging "on demand meat" has had on our diets, our environment and our social culture. What's more American than eating a 72oz port steak? No other country in the world has a claim like that. No one in France asks, What's more French than eating three pounds of Brie? although delicious the sound of that is disgusting. Yet we applaud and even create TV Shows about our diabetes inducing, heart attack culture thats lauded as amazing such as Man V Food and Bizarre Foods. Bizarre foods gets a pass because most of that food Americans don't eat on the average, but it affirms our bizarre fascination with eating everything.

They even call New York City the food Mecca. Really? Bite my ass, thats just not true. Every Chef has a restaurant there, thats just subjectivity biased by regionalism, and a false sense of patriotism slammed in to a turducken of Pride Sandwich.

I have a new idea about eating, don't be an idiot and understand the impact of food. I will eventually write more about this but just think, There are decisions we make everyday as innocuous as getting a cup of water, we change to CFL light bulbs, call ourselves green and then enjoy meat multiple times a week. There is a seizure of insanity in that logic, so lets all start making wiser decisions. Lets eat more Produce and less meat, lets make meat our sometimes food. Plus there are some amazing health benefits to it to.

On another note, when you give up meat for a bit like two weeks and then eat your favorite meat again. Its even better, some meats are also worse, because you can taste the growth hormones in them all of the sudden. We are often desensitized to them when we eat it daily.

A Problem with Architecture

White House smells of Parthenon Have you ever looked at a soulless plot of land, ready for cookie-cutter development and realized that residential homes have not come very far in the last 5 decades? Well, I have, and it is a sh*^^y sight to see. You see one problem that I have with current residential architecture is that it is stagnant. Even the very beautiful Victorian homes that grace San Franciscan hills are dormant of creativity because in a way the designers back then were more interested in preserving older concepts than creating new ones. This is felt mostly in the Greek Revival homes that then went out of fashion replaced by Gothic Era, Italianate, and Neo-Classicism. Yet the one thing they all share in common is their plagiarism of structures that were used to honor deities. In the Greek revival, or Athenian copy and paste era, we see the use of high columns, to create a deep sense of space that is almost overbearing and that's because it was a space designed to h...

Get Stung by a New Idea

So in High School I took a class on Entomology. After being amazed by the various insects and capturing a few in the wild, The Tarantula Hornet was the one that got away, I became very interested in the potential "uses" of insects. One Day, I was visiting Berkeley during their Entomology Departments get together day or something, and what did I find? Cooked Bugs. There were Chocolate covered Crickets, Roasted Roaches, Fryed Scorpions, and more. It got me thinking a lot. Most bugs are like 30-60 percent protein. What if we dropped our Cow dependency affect disorders and started harvesting Bugs? ( Image Taken From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Insect_food_stall.JPG) Its called Entomophagy , and its a great idea. Bugs are naturally beneficial to our environments, and with certain species experiencing an unnatural decline in population, such as Honey Bees, we are seeing adverse effects such as lower Pecan Production in California, due to the fact they are pollinat...
