Get Stung by a New Idea

So in High School I took a class on Entomology. After being amazed by the various insects and capturing a few in the wild, The Tarantula Hornet was the one that got away, I became very interested in the potential "uses" of insects. One Day, I was visiting Berkeley during their Entomology Departments get together day or something, and what did I find? Cooked Bugs. There were Chocolate covered Crickets, Roasted Roaches, Fryed Scorpions, and more. It got me thinking a lot. Most bugs are like 30-60 percent protein. What if we dropped our Cow dependency affect disorders and started harvesting Bugs? ( Image Taken From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Insect_food_stall.JPG) Its called Entomophagy , and its a great idea. Bugs are naturally beneficial to our environments, and with certain species experiencing an unnatural decline in population, such as Honey Bees, we are seeing adverse effects such as lower Pecan Production in California, due to the fact they are pollinat...

Saving the world by Saving ourselves: Less Meat equals more Water

Some people are overtly aware of the dangerous environmental impact that heard farming of cattle has caused in this country. There aren't really any good statistics that I have found questioning the average knowledge about water scarcity and its misappropriation towards cattle feed production. Did you know that in California there is more water going into the production of Alfalfa and Grain than towards human consumed produce? Its true. That means that water shortages could be eliminated in California all together if just 1/3 of meat production was halted, you should also stop watering your sidewalks, and lawns are unnatural during a drought, didn't you know? There would(and should) be less subsidies for these farmers and this would cause meat prices to go up. But the whole of society does not appreciate just how damaging "on demand meat" has had on our diets, our environment and our social culture. What's more American than eating a 72oz port steak? No other count...
